Why go

The fairway keeps going. The land eventually doesn’t.

From above, this coast looks like someone dragged their fingers through the land toward the Pacific.

Cape Kidnappers places an 18-hole Tom Doak course across the rolling hills and rugged cliffs of Hawke’s Bay. Golf follows the shape of a property whose ridges and sea views do much of the scene-setting before a club is chosen.

There is a sanctuary around the fairways

The golf course shares a working farm with Cape Sanctuary, where predator control supports native wildlife. The land between holes is part of the experience.

More of the story

The scale can be difficult to take in from a photograph. A strip of maintained fairway belongs to an immense piece of coastline, and the horizon carries on far beyond the part you are trying to play.

It is a place to resist rushing between shots. Look back along a hole as well as forward: the same ridge can read very differently once you have walked it. That changing perspective is the reason to put this course on a map of experiences.

How to play Cape Kidnappers

  1. Contact the golf reservations team with your dates and residency category. A lodge room and a golf booking are separate things to confirm.
  2. Reserve rental equipment or a caddie when arranging the round.

Before you go

The operator expects recovery from August 2026 greens coring by mid-September. Ask about current conditions and any reduced rate before booking.

A playing thought

Pick tees that let you play within the ridgelines. Wind and the scale of the landscape can make a sensible target feel smaller than it is.
